WESTFORD — Erin Doherty of Townsend and Ryan Shaw of Pepperell have been named September’s Athletes of the Month at Nashoba Tech.
Erin Doherty, daughter of Shawn and Theresa Doherty, is a standout co-captain for the cross-country team. According to coach Bruce Sullivan, she is a four-year starter and three-year league All-Star. Through the team’s first five races this year, she was 5-0, as was the team. In a win against Monty Tech of Fitchburg, she ran the 5K course in 23:39, a full minute ahead of the second-place finisher.
Erin is in the Health Assisting program and is in her second year of Dual Enrollment, attending Middlesex Community College full time. She is in the National Honor Society and served as a Kick-Off Mentor, helping new students to acclimate themselves to Nashoba Tech. Erin hopes to attend Salem State University to study Behavioral Analysis.
Ryan Shaw, son of Debbie Shaw, is a senior captain and running back for the football team, who, according to head coach James Creed, has really come into his own this fall. Through the first four games, Ryan had 71 rushes for 615 yards, an average of almost 12 yards per carry, and seven touchdowns. Before this year, Ryan had no touchdowns in his high-school career.
Ryan also plays basketball and lacrosse for Nashoba Tech. He is an honor-roll student in the Electrical Technology program and was inducted into the National Honor Society as a junior. He hopes to study Criminal Justice in college and work in law enforcement.
